1.1 INTRODUCTION

Dr. (Mrs.) GRACE AJAYI ADEDOYIN, THE ACTING DIRECTOR, PLANNING RESEARCH AND STATISTICS DEPARTMENT

Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Ajayi Adedoyin was born on the 4th APRIL, 1952; at Ayetoro-Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State, Nigeria. She passed her West African School Certificate (WASC) at St. Monica’s College, Kabba, Kogi State in 1972. Grace, as fondly called by friends had her Higher School Certificate (HSC) at Queen Elizabeth School from 1973- 1994 in Ilorin, Kwara State. She proceeded to the University of Ibadan where she graduated with a B.Sc (Hons.) in Agriculture, with a bias in Crop Science in 1977.

Another major feather was added to her academic qualifications when she passed out of the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) in 1985. She became a Master’s degree holder when she graduated from the University of Ilorin, after having successfully defended her dissertation for the award of M.Sc Agriculture in Crop Production in the year 1991. Ten years after, precisely in 2001, Grace Ajayi Adedoyin was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in Agronomy at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria after she successfully completed the research work and securing Senate approval for the award.

She transferred her service to TRCN in 2002 (October) and became the pioneer head, Research and Statistics Division of the Council. Dr. G. A. Adedoyin became the current acting Director, Planning Research and Statistics Department, TRCN on the 18th February, 2009. Before then, she was Assistant Director, PRS Dept. from October 2002 to February 2009; appointed Desk Officer on World Bank activities (2007). She was Secretary, Ministerial Task Team on Special Teachers Quality and Development (2006-2007). From 2004-2007, she was a member of the Executive Board of Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN).  

The TRCN’s Acting Director of Planning Research and statistics Department was member, Committee on Mass production of Technical & Vocational Education teachers organized by Education Trust Fund from 2005 to 2006. Also in 2005, she was Secretary, Local organizing Committee (LOC), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Train-the Trainer National Capacity Building Workshops. She was also Chairperson, Committee on Mandatory Continuing Professional Development of Teachers Manual. The academic enthusiast was TRCN representative on ‘USAID-ENHANSE’ project that produced the National Teacher Education Policy document. Dr. Adedoyin was a desk officer of TRCN on SMASE Nigeria project, also representing the Registrar/Chief Executive on the National Steering Committee of the project.      

The ebullient academia had written Academic researches on the effects of potassium nutrition and Mulching materials in nutrients uptake patterns and fruit yield in tomatoes (Lycopersicum Esculentum); History of Science Teaching in Kwara State: a case study of three selected secondary schools; Effect of varying maize population on seed yield of an early maize and cowpea intercrop and the effect of sowing date and nitrogen supply on leaf growth and grain yield of hybrid and open-pollinated maize. She has published papers in Journal of Agronomy.

She has been invited as speaker at graduation ceremonies of Secondary Schools and in teenagers’ programmes. Dr. (Mrs.) Adedoyin, a member of Board of Trustees of TRCN Pension Scheme has had the privileges to travel to Wales, England, Israel, Egypt and Ghana for conferences and workshops. The amiable personality is happily married with children and grandchildren.
