Nigerian teachers are now more cautious… CiwarWith the constitution of Teachers Investigation Panel (TIP) in accordance with the enabling Law, and the production of Teachers Code of Conduct copies, teachers in the Country have began to watch their conducts more seriously. The immediate past Registrar/CE, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Chief Anjikwi Musa Ciwar (OON/MNAE), who made the observation during his pre-retirement press briefing in Abuja recently, said, the Council’s eight years of existence was a reflection of breath-taking achievements. According to him, within the eight years of existence, over 700,000 teachers have been successfully registered from the primary to the tertiary level across the Country. These teachers, he continued, have been duly certificated and licensed as professional teachers in Nigeria. Ciwar stated that in 2004, TRCN was commended by House Committee on Education for effective utilization of the resources allocated to it. “With the limited fund available to us, we were able to construct and furnish a two Storey Office Complex, renovate and furnish the 12 zonal offices located at Benin, Akure, Uyo, Enugu, Owerri, Minna, Sokoto, Jos, Maiduguri, Yola, Kaduna and Lagos.” The Council, he added, was also able to purchase the following residential accommodation for staff from the Federal Housing Authority (FHA);
These houses he noted had been sold to staff in line with the monetization policy of Government. In the area of Mandatory Continuing Education Programme, the Pioneer Registrar of TRCN said the Council has done excellently well as it has conducted MCEP for registered teachers across the Country. This, he said, was done so that teachers can be abreast of current issues and techniques in education delivery in Nigeria. Ojewuyi Muyiwa
