It is time to introduce education law in tertiary institutions… TRCNTeachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has called for the introduction of Education Law as a course of study in the nation’s tertiary institutions. The Council’s acting Registrar/CE, Godwin A. Ogwuche, who made the call in Abuja recently said, due to its versatility, education as a discipline already has courses in Education Planning and Administration, Educational Psychology, Educational Philosophy, Educational Economics and so on. Speaking at the National Executive Conference of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), the TRCN scribe hinted that education has gone into Law and Educational Law is already being taught in various institutions abroad. Nigeria, he added, is yet to tap into the growing relationship between Law and Education. He said the focus of the conference which is “Education Law” is something critical to the development of the Education sector. This, he added, was because Education in the formal sense can only take place within the framework set by Law. “Whether we are thinking of Education at the micro level involving teaching and learning processes or the macro level dealing with the structure, socio-political and economic features of our education system, Law is definitely at the centre.” He stressed. The TRCN’s Registrar however called on stakeholders in the education sector to form a formidable force that would keep in check the growing trend of the twin evil of examination malpractices and cultism in the Nation’s education sector.
