TRCN, National eGovernment to tackle ICT problem

At last, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has taken steps towards finding lasting solution to the technical problem which hampered on-line registration of teachers across the Country.

The decision to find a lasting solution to the problem followed the National eGovernment Strategies’ resolution to form an alliance with TRCN on how to proffer a lasting solution to the problem.

The Ag. Registrar/Chief Executive, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Godwin Ogwuche, while inaugurating the eTRCN Joint Technical Committee and the eTRCN Joint implementation Committee, in Abuja recently, said, the inability of Nigerian teachers to register on-line was regrettable and that the Council will do everything within its limits to ensure the successful take-off of the eTRCN Project.

Ogwuche stated that the full Project implementation of the eTRCN Project became necessary in line with the successful conversion of the data of over 350,000 manually registered teachers. The membership of the implementation Committee, he added, includes:

  • The Registrar/CEO, TRCN or his representative – chairman
  • 5 Senior Management members of TRCN (including relevant Departments)
  • 3 Members of National eGovernment Strategies
  • 2 eTRCN Operators
  • 2 Members of Skye Bank PLC

The Committee, among other things, is to determine details and strategies for technical transformation of the TRCN to make it fully eGovernment compliant in readiness for its role in the 7-point Agenda for vision 20-2020 as well as the change management associated with the project.

The Technical Committee which was also inaugurated simultaneously, Ogwuche noted, was charged with the responsibility of addressing all technical issues arising from the Joint Implementation Committee and or from project implementation by the project Management Office such as:

  • LAN/WAN infrastructure, data-centre and related matters,
  • ePayment and related matters,
  • Postal services and security,
  • Business Development and Marketing,
  • Change Management and
  • To address any other issues that may arise in respect of the project.
