TRCN Celebrates 2006 in Style

For the first time ever, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, (TRCN), recently celebrated the successes of 2006 in style as Staff of the Council gathered to mark the year's achievements with pomp and pageantry.

The Registrar/Chief Executive, of the Council, Chief Anjikwi M. Chiwar, (OON/MNAE) told staff that the Council has remained a formidable force in the nation's education sector. This, he said, was as a result of the oneness that exists between council members across the country. He further noted that the impact of the Council since inception was one of the factors responsible for the full autonomy given Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) as the professional platform that would play for teachers the type of role played by the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN) for engineers. At the party, six members of staff were given various awards for their contributions to the successes recorded in 2006.

According to the Registrar, “It is not easy for a new organization to have attained such enviable height in just six years of operations. We have achieved this success because we have been able to work together as one.” He said when the reform was going on; he was very worried because he never wanted to loose any of his staff to the reform but put his trust in God. When the committee eventually came up with its submissions; amongst other parastatals in Education, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria was amongst the four that were given autonomy.

“My dream is to see TRCN as body that is very powerful, effective and can contribute to national development,” Ciwar said, adding that there are well over 1.5 million teachers in the country who rely solely on the qualitative and prompt services of Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria to restore the lost glory of the teaching profession. The Registrar said there are some things that were achievable within six years that wouldn't have been possible if the Council hadn't got the kind of cooperation and unity of purpose it got from staff.

The Council's director of Admin and Finance, G. A. Ogwuche, in his report commended the Registrar for his resilience and thirst for success. This he said has assisted the council in achieving such a high level of successes within a short period of six years. He however charged the awardees never to relent in their dedication and commitment to duties, noting that the awards are just to encourage them top do more.

One of the awardees, Mrs. Sarah Uge, who spoke on behalf of the other awardees thanked the council management for the awards and promised they will not relent in their commitment to the council.
